Oblate Fathers of St. Francis de Sales
In our missions throughout Namibia and South Africa we spread the rich heritage of the Salesian spirituality in collaboration with the Oblate Fathers of St. Francis de Sales.

Oblate Fathers of St. Francis de Sales

text-oblate-fathersIn 1873, Father Louis Brisson was able to begin the foundation of the Oblate Fathers of St. Francis de Sales. For many years Mother Mary de Sales Chappuis, of the Visitation of Holy Mary in Troyes, had been encouraging their chaplain to start a Congregation of priests following the spirit and teaching of St. Francis de Sales. After some years of resistance Father Brisson founded the Oblate Fathers of St. Francis de Sales. Years later he testified: ”The Oblates exist because my eyes have seen the Lord.”

In 1876, Father Brisson and five followers professed their vows in the chapel of the Bishop of Troyes. The Congregation grew and in 1882 came under the mantel of the Sacred Congregation for the Spreading of the Faith. Following its foundation, the Oblates Fathers at first were devoted mainly to the Christian education of youth, but has expanded to missionary and parochial works throughout the world (Europe, South Africa, Namibia, Benin, North and South America, India, Haiti).
